Fold down the tailgate AND the sides and you have a 5' x 8-1/2' FLAT bed -- forkliftable from any direction.
Note the under-bed storage...
I don't know what those Corvairs were rated for, but I'll bet it wasn't 2000 pounds. That was the rating of all type II VWs. (The weak link in that rating was the brakes -- I worried about stopping that ton a couple of times.)
Don't remember the Corvair mileage, either, but I bet the Volksy's better. The Corvair was undoubtedly faster, though.
I've looked those over. They have the right shape, but they really missed on the function.
The pictures are actually of a plastic model I found on the web. I wish I had some shots of my old one under some of the preposterous loads I made it carry.
