Hello. About to purchase a TR6 1976 with about 34000 miles. Car looks ok from pictures. Seller wants $3000 for the car is that a good price? Body looks good screwy dashboard made of cedar. Supposedly daily driver. Anything I need to be aware of, deal breakers? It's a bit of a drive to go see it. He has all parts, clean title... I had a GT6 when I was 18 so I do have some time in one. I am 65 now though I have no idea where the time went. Thanks in advance. Going tomorrow unless I get some bad mojo.

How much time and money are you willing to invest in this project ?

That's reasonable...be sure to check the frame for rust. If it's rusty on the outside chances are good there's some inside and although it can be repaired it might be more than you want to tackle and new ones will eat up a bunch of that 8 to 10.

Seems a good price. You really can't budget for restoration. Every twist of the wrench produces a surprise. If its running, you can eliminate or decide to delay drive train.

Not sure what you are looking for but my 2 cents, looks to be a lot more then 34K miles I would bet 134+. Does not seem to have overdrive which is a big plus. Seats wrong no center console, paint bad.... But as mentioned earlier rust is the major issue. You need to see the frame and underneath. Does it run? This would cost big $$$ $50K plus (if you outsource the work) to get back to close to stock, Paint, interior, top...and could be a lot more if there is rust. Again lower if you can do all the work yourself. I think the best a advice is always buy the best you can afford. At 65 do you want something you can drive or a project to restore, because in my mind this is a major project car?

I will definitely check the frame. 5hr drive heading out soon. I cant speak to the mileage owner did mention that he bought from person that had it in a garage for 10 years... I dont know. If someone is not truthful makes it a bit more challenging

I do have access to a frame and another 71 for about 1000.00. Car is rusted badly but the frame that comes additionally is solid

If you don't mind me asking pool boy what is the issue with the seats? I just need information so I could ask questions when I get there. Thank you

As to the seats they look OK but are not original fabric. The centers never had that pattern. Looks like everything else in the interior is missing/rotten, dash and all surrounding pads, door cards, carpet ..and all interior trim, sun visors...this stuff all adds up.

Mileage not correct......Body looks good...Go for it, cheap car...Probably requires at least another $30k plus providing you can do a lot of work yourself to make a nice car.

I just bought a GT6 that sat for 42 yrs. Some rust, bad seat pads, rotted tires, crushed radiator from jacking, locked engine for $5K, so that $3K TR6 looks good to me.

Thrust washers and differential mounts, besides the frame, to check out.. Good luck!

Is the OD still inplace ? quite a bargain if so. Un wrecked, un rusted, is quite unobtainable is these parts.Duck on a june bug dude!
Mad dog

Ok. No OD. Body is rust free. Frame rust free. Evidently this car was stored in a garage for 10 years. Since he posted the original picture he has dropped a body grinder on it and made a Nick in the back deck. Also put a scratch in the side and a little bit of damage at the wheel well. Transmission is tight runs great. I ended up getting it for $2,500. I'll post some more pictures once I get it up on the lift and all.

Good deal. Have fun. You don't find them like that very often. Nicks, small dents are easy.

Sounds like you got a good restoration car. Enjoy the ride!

Looking for a new dashboard if anyone has a lead or options. Also, what is the difference b/t a 72 and 76 dashboard? I can get a 72 for around 300, cherry wood but I assume it will not work in a 76.. Thanks

I believe the differences are around the 3 small lights in the middle for 76 only one, maybe 2 on a 72. That would not be a problem, but the washer/lights may be a bigger difference 72/vs 76
