Making Progress, Having Fun! [TR-2 Dismantling]

I have spent about a week now taking this car apart. Much simplier than my TR-6, and with enough digital pictures, hopefully it will go back together next year as easy as its coming apart! I've already oprdered all the body panels that will need replacing (both floors, front fender lower patch panels, both rear dogleg inner fenders, and both outer rockers). The rest of the car is rock solid. Just thought I'd send along a few pictures to show how much fun I'm having!!

Re: Making Progress, Having Fun! [TR-2 Dismantling

You have been busy! That is going to be one sweet car when you're done!

Re: Making Progress, Having Fun! [TR-2 Dismantling

I'm almost ready to pull the engine and transmission, after another days work...problem is, once I get it out, the car will have to sit for awhile until I can come up with the cash to start the real restoration..Merry Xmas to me I'm thinking..ha!

Re: Making Progress, Having Fun! [TR-2 Dismantling

That's OK. Theres a lot of cleaning and work to be done that will show real progress and keep you enthusiastic until the cash builds up. Good luck and keep posting pictures to show your progress.

Re: Making Progress, Having Fun! [TR-2 Dismantling

Here are a few more pictures. Made some progress today. Instrument panel and gauges removed and bagged, transmission cover removed, and the front frame support in the engine bay. Between my friend who has a media blasting cabinet, and a big tub of parts cleaner, I'll be able to clean up most of these parts for reuse. The only thing I won't ever reuse are fasteners (nuts, bolts, washers, etc). I figure new hardware is cheap insurance.....

Re: Making More Progress...

Yabba Dabba Dooooo!
looks like a "lightweight" TR3
Have fun, I'm right behind ya. As soon as I get mine home.
My co worker is looking in to buying an old Datsun roadster race car. It's a factory "lightweight" car. But that wasen't allowed in the class they were run in, so it was labled by the factory as "salt damaged"
I liked that one. that was the first time I'd heard that term used "officially".

Re: Making More Progress...

Banjo,

Good luck with your project. If you get stuck on how something comes apart, let me know! I can take things apart with the best of them! Getting it all back together, another matter!!!

Re: Making More Progress...

Thanks Mark, Likewise. I've actually done previous TR2 and 3 restorations and a good amount of mechanical work so I'm fermiliar with these little beasts. But by far I don't know it all. that's why I love all you guys (and gals). It's instant wisdom at the push of a key.
More "been there - done that" than you can shake a stick at.

Re: Making More Progress...

I spent 2 years on the 6, and I now have the fever..ha! I can do everything but paint and body work; I just don't have the patience or I'd do that too!! This 2 will be exactly as correct as I can research it when I'm done, and I'm sure it will be a 2 year or so project as well. But I'm certainly having fun taking it apart! Send pictures of yours when you can...I'm anxiously awaititng the Heritage Certificate for mine!!
