I am restoring a TR4A. When I purchased my TR it was already taken apart buy the previuos owner, hence some parts were missing. I am ready to install the interior now that everything else is done and can't quite figure out the 3 piece cockpit trim. there was a steel bracket attached to the rear of the cockpit that I assume this trim attaches too. Yet it will not attach the side trim pieces. Please any help will be appreciated. Photos would be extremely welcome.

Welcome to the forum-

Any chance that you can post a picture of what you have? I think you might have some TR4 pieces mixed in with your 4a - on a TR4, there are 3 rear pieces that overlap to completely surround the rear. On a 4A, I believe you have that center fixed piece, non-plated that attaches permanently to the top, and very small b-post aluminum finishers as you see on a TR6.

Be advised that if you have TR4 surround pieces, you can sell them pretty easily as they seem to always be in demand.

Hi Randy, I do have aTR4A 1967. I do like the look of the cars with the chrome ( or brushed aluminum ) rear cockpit trim. All the tubs appear to be the same. How would I go about installing this ? Do I need a different steel mounting bracket or does this not mount to it?

Thanks for the compliment, but my car looks best only when the picture is shrunk down to the size of a postage stamp!

Adding the cockpit trim may be doable, but your 4A was the first TR with the later style convertible top permanently attached. This required the rear plate to be bolted to the back cowl area so those cockpit trim pieces would either interfere, or always be covered up. If you really want those trim pieces, and aren't trying to be perfectly original you may be better off going with a TR4 top which was removable - and that probably means a new aluminum header for the top of the windshield as well as a set of TR4 hoodsticks for the top.

The trim pieces also used a bunch of screw in lift-the-dot posts, which is really how it attaches to the body - that would mean a TR4 tonneau cover as well to be compatible.

My vote would be stay with the 4A bits on your 4A, and if you really like the cockpit trim get a spare TR4!

Randy
