I would like to replace my inertia starter with a pre-engaged starter. I have too many problems with the old one. If it can be done can someone please tell me where they got one, part number and any relevant info? I am also doing the ground polarity change at the same time.

Thank you

Do you mean a Hi-torque starter? In which case Moss Motors is your friend

I like buying parts from bpnorthwest.com. They have the new starters and at a good price. Great people to deal with.
Link is for MGB but they have the starters for other models.

MOSS = highway robbery. They are a money making machine. They used to be friendly. They used to be my go to. Back when the had help other than pay your bill. Their help is worthless. I will only buy form them as a last resort.

I buy from then most of the time. I bought one. Wrong number of teeth. I got is a little messy trying to install it. I asked them for help, they gave me wrong info. Just said it won't work. No reason why. No return. I have an expensive doorstop now.

What problems are you having with your inertia starter?
Jams the flywheel. Cross fingers for every start. Not fun. Then the spring thing on the end blew out. Broken compression clip that no one sells. Plus the 2 flanges were getting distorted. I want 100% reliability. I don't drive it much because of that starter. I have owned it since '77. I don't like to pray every time I want to drive it. And some times I am dressed better than crawling under it to get a wrench on it to disengage it from the flywheel gear. I bet it looks pretty bad. With that motor it's a barn queen and I might as well get rid of it. sorry I waxed verbose. It's that frustrating.

I am not sure about the interchangability of the 1968-1980 starters with the 1967 (are the teeth the same, mounting points, etc?) If so, I purchased an MGB starter for my 1970 from Rock Auto - it is remanufactured by AC Delco and seemed like a perfect match. Engine is not yet back in the car so cannot comment on longevity and this point.
